How Does The Juice Diet Work?

The juice diet, sometimes known as the smoothie diet, can be structured in several different ways. Depending on desired weight loss, sometimes people drink these juices alongside 1 or 2 healthy meals. Alternatively, if a greater amount of weight loss is desired, the juice diet can be completed in absence of other foods.

Here is an detailed plan of each day:

  • Day 1 – 1 detox smoothie, 1 salad, 1 meal, 2 snacks
  • Day 2 – 1 detox smoothie, 2 salads, 2 snacks
  • Day 3 – 2 detox smoothies, 1 salad, 2 snacks
  • Day 4 – 3 detox smoothies, 2 snacks
  • Day 5 – 3 detox smoothies, 2 snacks
  • Day 6 – 1 detox smoothie, 2 salads, 2 snacks
  • Day 7 – 1 detox smoothie, 1 salad, 1 meal, 2 snacks

By following this juice diet plan, you will be gently guided into 2 days which consist only of smoothies. This ensures your body is sufficiently adapted for the diet. If at any point during the diet, you do begin to feel hungry, it is possible you could add another balanced detox juice and maintain the same results.

How much weight can I lose with the juice diet?

Firstly, it is likely that the weight you will lose will be water weight, this is because you are decreasing your starch intake. When you notice this initial weight loss it is often beneficial in providing motivation to lose even more weight. By reducing the amount of actual food you’re eating will also ensure you’re adjusted to smaller food portions, so that when you return to a regular diet it’s also likely you will consume less.

However, weight loss is not the only benefit of a juice cleanse diet. Your gut health will also improve and an increased sense of wellbeing is also often experienced. Studies continue to find that even due to a minimal 3 day juice diet, intestinal microbiota (that is your gut bacteria associated with weight loss) is altered and a greater sense of well being was induced lasting over 2 weeks.

Whilst, this diet can produce significant results, a juice cleanse diet is a short term diet in terms of weight loss. It would not be sustainable to engage in this type of diet in the long term. In addition to this, it is important to consider the nutritional value of each drink to ensure you’re consuming enough nutrients and calories to function normally and in a healthy way.
