Healthier snacks provide a slower release of energy that will keep you going throughout the day. Eating snacks throughout the day helps to reduce sleepiness which can happen after consuming too many calories in one meal. Amino acids help to increase the neurotransmitters production which helps to regulate alertness and concentration, this is found in protein rich foods such as eggs, cheese, meat, tofu and fish. Omega 3 fatty acids are also another great nutrient to have for a snack, such as walnuts and tuna, it benefits your brain and heart health as well as, reduces the risk of anxiety, depression, heart disease and regulates blood pressure. There are so many quick, easy and healthy snack recipes. Below are some of our favourites; 

Instant frozen berry yoghurt

Delicious and simple, this quick and easy recipe is low in calories and fat, making it a great healthy snack. 

Ingredients

  • Honey, 1 tbsp
  • 250g Greek yogurt
  • 250g mixed berries, frozen

Red pepper and chickpea dip

A fresh and healthy recipe, perfect served with toasted pitta bread. Hummus is full of plant based protein, nutrients, fibre and helps to fight inflammation as well as controlling blood sugar levels.  

Ingredients

  • 350g rinses chickpeas
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 4tbsp olive oil
  • Squeezed lemon juice
  • Toasted pitta bread
  • 2 deseeded, roasted, chopped red peppers
  • Fresh chopped coriander

 

Fresh burst muffins

This is a perfect on the go, low fat snack, packed full with nutrients and fruit. 

Ingredients

  • Plain flour, 225g
  • Baking powder, 2 tsp
  • 2 Large eggs
  • Skimmed milk, 175ml
  • 50g melted butter
  • Clear honey, 100ml
  • 140g blueberries
  • Dried cranberry, 85g

 

Avocado and smoked salmon sushi

This sushi recipe provides healthy fats and omega 3, making a delicious snack or light bite. 

Ingredients

  • Sushi rice, 300g
  • White wine vinegar, 2 tbsp
  • Caster sugar, 1tsp
  • 1 avocado
  • ½ juiced lemon
  • 4 Slices of smoked salmon 
  • 4 sheets of nori seaweed
  • Chives
  • Soy sauce to serve

Sweet and nutty energy balls make the best healthy snack. They are naturally sweetened, vegan and gluten free with a rich chewy and nutty flavour. They are simple and quick to make and even taste just like cookies but are much healthier as they are made using wholesome ingredients.
